What to Expect - and When an Apartment Fits Better
Most people searching for a hotel in Stainz are not necessarily looking for a hotel but for somewhere to stay in the village. That is a difference - and it is worth a moment before booking, because the two forms enable different stays.
Searches for a hotel in Stainz rarely come from people to whom the hotel operation as such matters. They come from people who want to stay in Stainz and use "hotel" as the most obvious word for it - the way you say "google" and mean a search engine.

What a vacation apartment does better
The difference usually shows on the second day. In a hotel the daily routine is set: breakfast between seven and ten, room service while you are out, a walk through the lobby before you are even in the open air. In a vacation apartment that frame falls away - a kitchen in which a coffee at half past ten still makes sense, a key that belongs to you for the duration of the stay, and nobody asking how your day was.
Concretely, there are four points where an apartment is ahead:
No time windows. No breakfast buffet with a closing time, no cleaning that pushes you out of the room, no dinner with a table reservation.
Space. A living room that contains no bed is the most noticeable difference on stays from three nights on - all the more so as a couple or with children.
Self-catering. Not as an economy measure but as freedom. If you don't have to be sitting in a restaurant at seven, you have one more evening.

The middle way that exists in Stainz

The most common case in which the question "hotel or apartment" cannot be answered sensibly at all is a celebration. A family over a weekend, a milestone birthday, a wedding nearby: part of the group stays three nights and wants a kitchen, another part comes for one night and wants breakfast.

Whatever form of accommodation you choose: Stainz lies roughly in the middle of the Schilcherland and is therefore better placed than most alternatives in the region. Most wineries and places to visit are within twenty minutes by car, Graz within around forty, the South Styrian Wine Road within thirty to fifty.
