Stainz Castle
Stainz Castle is practically on our doorstep – a short walk is all it takes, hardly an excursion in the true sense. And yet it carries a story that also gave our house its name.
A Place Directly Connected to Johann & Anna
Archduke Johann of Austria once used Stainz Castle as a hunting and summer residence. Originally founded as an Augustinian canons' monastery, the building passed into his possession after secularization – here he spent part of his time away from the Viennese court, in the region he loved throughout his life. This very story – a man who deliberately chose a simpler life in Styria over the grand stage – is also at the heart of the story that gives our house its name.
What's in the Castle Today
For decades, the castle has housed the agricultural museum of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. Farming equipment, rural crafts, and the agricultural history of Styria are on display here – no crowds, no long lines, more of a quiet walk through rooms that tell their own history.
The Castle Park
A park surrounds the castle, inviting visitors to linger even without a museum visit. A short walk there and back fits easily into a free morning without taking up the whole day.
